Serenity (Seahorse)

I created my first seahorse "Serenity" for the BreyerFest Best Customs contest a few years back. He won the fantasy division that year! Since then I've been wanting to make more seahorses, and started a few new sculptures this spring. There are three baby seahorse foals floating around my workbench in various stages of completion. I had hoped to have them ready before this year's BreyerFest, but they're not quite done yet!

Here's a sneak peek!

I'm sculpting these from scratch out of air-drying floral clay (aka porcelain clay). It's slightly flexible, so his fins bend a little. It's taking forever to add all those ribs along his side! I have to do them in small sections to let them dry. The fins along his back will come last.

He should be ready soon; follow along on Instagram or join my mailing list to see the finished piece!
